Seven Ways to Promote Your Squidoo Lens

How do I promote my Squidoo lens? This is the next question you will have since you have been following this series on Squidoo lens creation. 

Before you get serious about promoting your Squidoo lens, let us make certain that your lens is of the highest quality. Make sure your lens has great content, a number of interesting pictures, informative videos and more great content You can also add a variety of voting, guestbook, Google news, eBay, Amazon or Twitter feed modules or building blocks. A good lens is complete with no default title on modules with a small variety of modules. A great lens is truly unique and you and contains a vast number of different modules, great content and this comes over time. One of the most critical things to gain and keep rank on Squidoo is regular editing of a lens. Squidoo much like Google has a freshness portion in their rating algorithmic, to gain and maintain good rankings you must regularly edit your lenses. I actually recommend attending to them every third day, just improve or add new content to your lens. 

Browse Other Lenses

Use the search function in Squidoo, the small white box in the upper right hand corner of a Squidoo lens to find a list of lenses on any topic(see video).

This is a important regular task that you will want to do to get known at Squidoo and three years later it is part of my routine on a weekly basis to generate interest and meet new people on Squidoo. Just browsing lenses will not leave your mark, so follow the rest of these points to generate interest and promote your Squidoo lens. 

Like Other Lenses

It is a simple process and part of our regular interaction on Squidoo. At the very top left of every Squidoo lens is a "like" button, the top button is specifically for Squidoo. This will show the people that have found this lens to be of value. This is part of the ranking system on Squidoo, of course the more "squid likes" a lens receives the better it will rank inside Squidoo's own search function and in Google also.

Leave comments on other lenses

Leaving comments on other lenses is also a great way to generate interest and traffic back to your Squidoo lenses. I always like to try and address the lensmaster by name when leaving comments. It is very similar to leaving blog comments and generates interest back to your lenses. On related topic lenses I will also leave a html link in the comments and some lensmasters will publish these. Remember these should always be in context of your comment and related to the lens. Encourage other lensmasters

Remember that Squidoo is a community and to generate interest you must become part of the community. It is real easy to leave comments and messages for other lensmasters. In the top right hand corner of every lens there is a picture and introduction. When you click on this picture or the link, it will bring up the lensmasters biography page. You can browse all of their lenses and leave them a message. Use this to compliment great work and encourage new people on Squidoo. 

Become a part of Squid U

Introduce your self and become interactive at the squidu forum. Remember to go make connections and interact. Do NOT try to promote your lenses directly, as this will back fire. Just like your lenses can be liked, they actually can be whats called "dinged" by experienced Squidoo lensmasters called squid Angels. Becomeing part of the forum WILL generate interest to your lenses, just don't try to promote at all. This will also be a valuable spot to get your questions answered and learn many things that you can and cant do on Squidoo. Read and follow the directions and have fun!

Share the Great lenses you find on Social networks

Now this can be fun and simple also. Share the best lenses you find on your Social networks. When you use the share buttons to the left of every Squidoo lens you can share the great lenses that you have found with your friends and followers on Facebook, Twitter, Google plus and Pinterest. I also let the lensmaster know in my comments that I am sharing their stuff, many will reciprocate and share my lenses also. Do not ask for shares likes or pins but when you are consistent at doing this and let it n known that you are sharing their content your will get shared also.

Keep your lens updated and fresh

This is a important element to gain and maintain rankings on Squidoo and Google, fresh content and regular edits. Trust me if you build a lens and just let it sit the traffic will die down and your rankings will dwindle. The opposite is true  also, keep your lens updated regularly and it will continue to climb in the Squidoo rankings.
